If you’re reading this, I really hope it means you’re planning a trip to visit one of my favorite places ever, Angkor Wat. I’ve been lucky enough to visit it twice and I’m not ruling out a third time.
The Angkor Wat Archeological Park, located just a few miles from the city of Siem Reap, is the most popular destination in Cambodia. But in order for you to visit all the amazing temples there, you will need to purchase an Angkor Wat ticket.

Why You Need An Angkor Pass
Angkor Wat is actually the name of the main temple in the Angkor Archeological Park but pretty much everyone just refers to the whole place as Angkor Wat. There are hundreds of temples in the Angkor Wat Complex, many of them in ruins, with 72 of them considered Major Temples.
Your Angkor Wat entry ticket, known as the Angkor Pass, will give you access to Angkor Wat and access to all the temples within the park. Just in the first 11 months of 2024, ticket sales brought in nearly $42 million.
The money from the ticket sales goes toward many things like maintenance of the park and a children’s hospital. Most of money goes to the Cambodian government and it gets spread across the country towards various projects.
Angkor Wat Opening Hours
Angkor Wat is open 365 days a year. Yep, that includes holidays, even Christmas. Certain temples open before others for sunrise at Angkor Wat and sunset viewing at Phnom Bakheng and Prerup Temples.
- The Angkor Wat & Srassrang Temples are open from 5am to 5:30pm.
- The Phnom Bakheng and Prerup Temples are open from 5am to 7pm.
- All other Angkor Wat temples are open from 7:30am to 5:30pm.
*It’s important to note that there is a dress code at Angkor Wat. You MUST cover your shoulders and knees when entering any temple in Cambodia.
Angkor Wat Entrance Fee
All foreigners are required to purchase an Angkor Wat entry ticket to visit the temples in the park. The only exception is for children under the age of 12. They do not need a ticket but they do need to have a valid passport to show that they are under 12 years old.
There is also another exception that allow foreigners with a residence visa that gives them entry as well.
There are three kinds of tickets for Angkor Wat that will get you into the complex that you can purchase.
- 1-Day Pass: This pass is valid for ONE DAY only and costs $37.
- 3-Day Pass: This pass is valid for ANY three days during a 10 day period and costs $62.
- 7-Day Pass: This pass is valid for ANY 7 days during a one month period and costs $72.
If you are in the park and cannot show your ticket to officials OR you have a fake pass, you will be fined between $100-$300 and possibly be arrested.
Where To Buy Tickets For Angkor Wat
There are four ways to buy your tickets for Angkor Wat. For each way, you will receive the exact same ticket for the same price.
- Buy in person at the ONLY ticket office that sells them in person.
- You can buy your ticket online and print at home or keep a digital copy on your phone.
- There is now an app that you can buy your ticket through.
- There are kiosks in three locations in the area for you to purchase your ticket.
Buy your Angkor Wat Pass In Person
There is only ONE ticket office in Siem Reap, located a few miles outside of the complex. They are open from 5am to 5:30pm so you can buy your ticket on the same day you want to visit.

When you get to the ticket office you’ll find dozens of windows that you can go up to and purchase your ticket. Just tell the person how many days you want to visit, they’ll take your photo and print your ticket with your photo on it.

NOTE: they are moving away from needing your photo taken so at some point that part of the process will no longer apply.
Get Your Angkor Wat Ticket at a Kiosk
There are now around 15 self-service kiosks located at several locations in the Siem Reap area. You’ll find the kiosks at the Angkor Wat Ticket Office, Angkor Parvis, and at the Heritage Walk Supermarket.
The Heritage Walk Supermarket is just a 15 minute walk from Pub Street. Pub Street is where everyone goes at night and is filled with restaurants, bars, and clubs. There are 6 kiosks located there.
Angkor Parvis is an area right outside of Angkor Wat Temple that has gift shops, a coffee shop, and restaurants. There are currently just three kiosks located there.
All entry tickets purchased after 4:45pm will be valid starting on the next day. However, if you purchase your ticket after 4:45pm, you can go ahead and visit the Phnom Bakheng and Prerup Temples since they are open until 7pm for sunset. You should take advantage of it and use that time to get a sunset view in and mark off one of the temples.
IF you lose your ticket you will have to buy another one so guard it with your life! You can also purchase a special holder to protect it and keep it around your neck.

There are checkpoints when you enter Angkor Wat and you will be stopped on the way in to show your pass. You may have to show your ticket at certain temples too so keep it available.
You should only purchase your ticket through the OFFICIAL Angkor Wat Ticket office. You might see other places online sell tickets but you will pay more money for that service. Honestly, I wouldn’t trust those places either. You just never know if you will actually get a real Angkor Pass or if someone just takes your money.
How to Buy Your Angkor Wat Pass Online
Another option is to purchase your ticket online which also can ONLY be bought on the official website. The process of buying an Angkor Wat Pass is changing and the new way was supposed to begin on January 1, 2025 but their online purchasing system is still showing the old way.
In person and online both require(d) an unedited photo (like a passport photo) and your personal information such as sex, age, and where you’re from. They are moving away from a paper ticket and will be using wristbands for entry.
But at the moment if you go to purchase your ticket online, you’ll still have to provide a photo. That will likely change at some point so it’s possible you may not have to provide a photo by the time you go to purchase. I think they’re still trying to figure it all out.
When you go to purchase your ticket online, you’ll need to register. Once you register you’ll receive an email to verify your account. After it’s verified you’ll be able to make your purchase.

There are four different temples to choose from with the Angkor Wat complex being the first option.

Next, you’ll pick one of the three types of tickets depending on how many days you want to visit. You’ll also need to choose the day you want to visit. If you choose a 1 day pass you will need to visit on that day.
If you choose the 3 or 7 day pass, the date you choose will be the first day you can visit. So the 3 day pass is good for ANY three days within a 10 day period. If you choose February 1st, you’ll have from February 1st – February 10th to use your 3 day pass. You can visit any 3 days during that 10 day window. It does not need to be consecutive days.

After you choose your ticket and date, you’ll be taken to the next screen which has some information about how many tickets you can purchase and where you’ll be able to choose the number you want to buy.

The next screen will show you the dates you can enter and when your pass expires. You’ll also choose your nationality and upload your photo.

After you’ve done that you’ll be taken to the next screen which will be a review of what you’re buying. Be sure to check the dates again because once you buy there are no refunds. If your dates are wrong, you will have to purchase another ticket. ๐

If everything looks good you’ll go to the final screen where you’ll enter your credit card information. Once you’re done you’ll be able to download your ticket and you can either print it to show at the checkpoints or you can show a digital version.
Buy Your Angkor Pass on The App
Buying your Angkor Pass on the app looks just like purchasing your ticket online at the official site, except it won’t ask you to upload a photo. Even if you don’t use the app to purchase your entry ticket, it’s still a very useful app to have.
It shows the different temples in the area and gives you some information about them. If you buy your ticket through the app you won’t need a hard copy of your ticket. It will all be on the phone and you just show that at the checkpoints.
The app can be downloaded from the Apple App Store or Google Play.

Rules For Your Angkor Pass
- The ticket you purchase will have your name and info on it and can ONLY be used for yourself. You can’t sell it to someone or transfer it into someone else’s name. It’s yours only.
- Tickets are non-refundable so check your dates very carefully.
- You need to keep your ticket with you at all times while you’re inside the Angkor Archeological Park. You will be stopped at a checkpoint coming into the park to verify that you have a valid ticket. You may be asked again at certain temples to present your ticket as well.
- Your ticket can be used for all temples inside the Angkor Park but there are other temples in Siem Reap that you can see with your ticket.
- Unfortunately there are no discounts available for large groups. Everyone will have to buy an individual ticket at the standard prices.
